War Department proclamation, 1837.

Two page proclamation dated War Department, September 13, 1837, and signed J.R. Poinsett, regarding the relief of inhabitants driven frm their homes during the war. "Persons who sell whiskey or keep gambling houses, or whose conduct is notoriously immoral, are not entitled to any support from the bounty of government, and are not to receive rations."
